Safety and Compliance

HSBD provides a menu of consulting services to ensure that the hospital is the safest environment for providing patient care and the safest place to work. This is achieved utilizing the following methods:

Safety reviews are performed on current hospital compliance programs, policies and procedures as well as incidents to identify hazards and suggest changes for improvement.

Reviews and analysis are completed on new hospital design plans, blueprints and documents to identify potential safety and ergonomic hazards as well as infection control compliance.

A complete review of the organizations compliance with Joint Commission Environment of Care standards is completed detailing suggestions for improvement.

A review of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid compliance is completed.

HSBD utilizes well-developed survey tools plus many years of experience managing regulatory and accreditation requirement  to ensure an organization is in compliance and always survey-ready. HSBD will work with key departments: Safety, Facilities Management, Infection Control, Risk Management, Security, Administration and other individuals responsible for Joint Commission and CMS compliance to design and document programs that meet and/or exceed the standard requirements. This includes document review, building tours and staff interviews. Compliance reports will be provided following the review. Clients will also receive updates on standards and responses to any safety or compliance inquiries.

Sustainability

Sustainability audits HSBD will conduct an audit of a business's current sustainability practices. The audit will show the benefits of the current program, ?going green? practices that can be easily implemented and also enhanced sustainability practices which will provide a good return on investment.

HSBD consults businesses on the steps for implementing a sustainability program into their business practices. The implementation can be phased to demonstrate incremental benefits.

Specific services are :

Auditing all current programs for implementing new sustainability initiatives

Developing new policies and procedures for managing waste diversion

Implementing a ?green cleaning? program for Environmental Services

Evaluating current purchasing practices to identify where "green" purchases can be implemented without increased cost

Assist in developing a "green" team to ensure here is a continuing sustainability program

Implement a waste diversion program which increase recycling and lowers waste disposal expense

HSBD will first provide an audit of an organization's current sustainability program. An audit will demonstrate what aspects of the program are working, what improvements can be made and what opportunities are available to expand the program.  An audit will also show what savings are currently achieved or what financial benefits and short-term expenses may result from expanding the program.

HSBD keeps clients updated on new green business innovations and also changes in legislation in the sustainability field.

Synergy of sustainability and safety - HSBD will demonstrate how adopting sustainability practices into a business's operations have a synergistic benefit with safety and disaster planning.

Disaster Planning

HSBD provides disaster response planning for all businesses. HSBD takes a very pragmatic approach to ensure that a business's disaster plan is specifically tailored to their environment, their local hazards, the individuals involved or affected by the plan and also a plan that is understood and works. A risk analysis will be done or reviewed to identify to ranks the risks associated with maintaining "business as usual".  Deliverables include a written plan, personal pocket guides, and training and follow up. Each plan will address the four cornerstones of Disaster Planning:
preparedness, mitigation, response and recovery.

Every business disaster plan must be complete and understood by the employees and be as pragmatic for the environment as possible.

Examples of specific plans include:

Patient surge plans - local catastrophe resulting in a large influx of patients, for example
Loss of utility plans -loss of normal routine power, for example
Natural disaster response plans -earthquake or tornado, for example
Security related incident - bomb threat or terrorist event, for example
Organization specific plans based on prior events which have disrupted normal operations

Transition Planning

HSBD will work with a transition team to develop and provide a safe process for opening a new hospital and ensuring compliance with all safety regulations and accreditation standards.  This includes reviewing the current built environment , plans and the current environment of care programs for regulatory and accreditation compliance. HSBD will work with the transition team to implement an operational model that will result in the safest environment for providing patient care and a safe place to work.
